Sunshine

Good morning everyone! We have a brilliant blue sky with white puffy clouds for today. Tomorrow is supposed to bring more rain but right now I’m sitting out on the deck with my knitting, enjoying the sunshine in the warmth.
This is what I’m working on right now.  I apologize for the shadows, I could not find enough shade to take a good picture but at least you can get the idea. This will be a toddler blanket for the crisis nursery. It is the “Soft Vines” pattern.

And the yarn? This is the leftover yarn from the blanket Vera made for her son.  You can find her at “The Threaded Lane” over on my side bar.  She was sweet enough to send it to me to use for one of my charity projects. It is Knit Picks Brava bulky in the “canary” colorway.  I expected one or two skeins when she asked if I would like it. Imagine my surprise when a bag with five beautiful skeins of yarn arrived in the mail. Vera, that was so generous of you. Thank you!

I was able to finish the socks I showed you last time. I actually had them done about an hour after I published the last post. I should have just waited.  This is also Knit Picks yarn.  It’s Felici in the “River Rocks” colorway.  They are going into my gift basket.

The same day the yarn arrived, I received this sweet little package from Pammy Sue. If you remember, I finished a blanket for Pammy Sue that she was making for a friend, after she had a shoulder injury and found it difficult to crochet.  Here is a picture to remind you of what it looked like. This is on a queen size bed.

Look at this cute little cup/planter and bracelet.  Thank you so much Pammy Sue.

She also gave me the leftover yarn from the blanket and I had just enough to make this wheelchair lapghan for the nursing home. I like the way it turned out.  It’s in the log cabin pattern.

I have a question for those of you who sew.  Do any of you know where I can buy some fusible lightweight interfacing online? I’ve checked the Goods store in Pennsylvania, JoAnn’s, Michael’s, and Hobby Lobby. It’s out of stock everywhere. I have bought fabric online to make a couple of dresses as mine are all wearing out, but I can’t find interfacing anywhere.  Also, how terrible would it be not to put interfacing on the sleeves and the neckline? When I say mine are wearing out, I’m not kidding. I have worn them daily for about five years now. The seams cannot be repaired anymore.

The only place I’ve been this week is to replace the battery in my car‘s key fob. Dennis went to back out of the garage Wednesday to go to work and it started beeping at him. The fob on my car does everything, as there is no actual key. I went to the battery store less than a mile away from our house. I had my mask on. The gentleman walked up to within one foot of me, I’m not exaggerating, I kept backing up and he looked at me like I was crazy. I was in and out of there in less than five minutes, but I still went home and scrubbed my hands and wiped the car down with Clorox wipes.

We had our weekly Thursday night Bible study last night via zoom. I am so grateful for that app. It’s wonderful to be able to see the faces of those 10 friends. We have had Bible study at our house with these people every Thursday night for the last 25 years. It seems odd not to be preparing a treat and getting the house ready for company on Thursdays. I will be so grateful when this time of our lives is over.

Last weekend we attended four different church services online Saturday night and Sunday morning, but it’s not the same as actually fellowshipping face-to-face with people or taking the Lords supper with them.

I hope you were all hanging in there and staying healthy. I’m praying for you all.

Blessings,
Betsy

  1. Congrats on all the projects you have finished!! That yellow blanket is so cheerful. I wonder if the interfacing issue is because of all the mask making. I have bought it on Amazon before since I am nowhere near any fabric shops anymore.

  2. I typed fusible lightweight interfacing into the www.google.com site and saw several options. Good luck!

  3. That's a lot of leftover 'canary' coloured yarn!! It's such a pretty colour too. If I were brave I'd paint my kitchen that colour but since I'm not brave ( and can't paint) I'll keep it the way it is.
The striped socks are cute. Some lucky recipient will treasure them. You make such lovely things.

  4. I would think you could find the interfacing on Amazon. Many people are using it as a barrier in fabric masks. I recently got elastic from Amazon and it has been unavailable most places. Good luck,

  5. I was just about to say, "wow! That looks like the yarn Vera used". LOL I love the pattern you chose. VERY pretty.

The mug is adorable. What are the 3 flowered things with the little chain? Is it a bracelet?

What is it with people???? I see so many wearing a mask, but their nose is not covered. NOT going to help people!!!

  6. Your crochet and knit projects are wonderful. Good luck finding the interfacing. You might try Nancy’s Notions as they sometimes have it in their catalog. Walmart might also have it.

  7. I admire your stitching and hope you are able to find the interfacing. I have really come to appreciate Zoom meetings and FaceTime over the last weeks even though I still feel awkward using them. I too have attended multiple church services online...some in northeast England. Amen to Proverbs 18:10!💜🧶🙏

  8. Lovely post again, dear Betsy, and so agree re people coming up close and not getting it. Yest out walking three teens on bike zoomed past me within one foot. That's bad in normal circumstances. No point in attempting to say anything they don't get it.
Love your Proverbs verse.. we can run to our LORD and be safe.. how wonderful!! God is very good to us.
Wow isn't that canary yellow wool wonderfully cheery and you're really usung a lovely pattern on the blanket.
Also love the log cabin pattern.. very clever. Those socks are truly lovely colours welll done, beautifully made.
I pray you can find some iron on interfacing. I've some here but four to six weeks mail is prob not practical. Our mail is really bad and slow esp to your area.. my neice lives in Whistler and takes usually 6 weeks.. I use it and understand why you want it. I used to make all my clothes when was about 17kg heavier but now fit my sister's clothes so have plenty.

Thanks for sharing, dear Betsy, and may God bless and keep you and all whom you love, in these changeable times. As Paul wrote: "We walk by faith, not by sight."

  9. Good job on all of the projects--I'm glad you enjoyed the sunshine when you could!
And yes, Zoom meetings are wonderful but not as good as the real thing!

  13. I thought that yarn looked familiar! that was really sweet of Vera. You are putting it to great use. Love those socks too. I just got a pile of Felici I ordered - for Christmas socks.

For interfacing, try Missouri Star Quilt Co. Their shipping is pretty quick.

  14. I just ordered a bunch of Brava chunky! It is really inexpensive yarn, but nice to work with! I even got a skein of the canary yellow. All of your projects are nice. Love the socks.

  15. Hi Betsy! Love that yellow yarn and your blanket will be beautiful! I like that log cabin design for a lapghan too!

  16. I love the beautiful Scripture photos you have been including in your posts. SO encouraging and inspiring. Your knitted creations are so pretty, as always, and so professional looking. You are so gifted! I know what you mean about that man in the store. It is like some people just don't "get it" and you have to wonder if they live in a cave. I find myself getting so perturbed at people, and it sometimes feels like this is bringing out the worst in me. The other day, I was in Walmart, and this woman with her little child in the cart came right up on me nearly, and of course they were not wearing masks. I quickly walked away and was so irritated, and then I felt the Lord check me on my inward struggle. I don't like feeling this way and feeling so aggravated when another human being is near me. Everyone seems so angry and on edge, and to tell you the truth, I absolutely hate going anywhere right now. My dear husband is so sweet and does most of the going out, but he loves for me to come with him sometimes, and I am so grateful for any moment with him, so I go. It is just a very tense, dark time in our world right now, and like you, I spend much time in prayer.

  17. I searched and searched for interfacing for my medical masks and never did find any. I love your yellow blanket, so pretty. I like Knit Picks yarn, it's nice to work with.

  18. How generous of Vera to send you that fabulous yellow yarn and the blanket you're making with it is amazing! I'm not a seamstress, but can you use some of the dress fabric for the interfacing? Dayle made me a homemade carrot cake with cream cheese frosting for my birthday and we just ate a piece and he did such a good job! Be careful out there.. there are some real yoyos who are not being safe. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  19. I'm so glad the yarn arrived safely Betsy! You are already putting it to great use and I love the pattern for the blanket you are making. Very, very pretty. I hope your weekend is going well.

  20. Betsy, glad to find you. We have lots in common. I will read about you often.

  21. Hello Betsy,
I added you to my blogroll of friends today. We seem to have similar interests. I do not know where you can get the interfacing. I know that some people are lining masks with it, so that may be why you cannot find it. You can line with the same fabric if you wish. There aren't hard and fast rules in home sewing. You're not in home ec being graded by a teacher. ~smile~ Do what you can with what you've got where you are.
    Be blessed,
    Laura

  22. Beautiful projects, every one of them! I think it's hard for some (even myself at times) to remember to keep their distance. I got a vaccine at a local drugstore this past week, and it was only after I was home did I get to thinking and realized how close the pharmacist and I were as we talked for several minutes after he gave me the vaccine. We were both masked, but still... between the two of us, I'd think he'd have more self-awareness than I might. But that's probably not fair. I mean, they can't seriously distance themselves behind that counter (there were at least 4 people working in the pharmacy when I went in) so I imagine people who have continued to work during this time aren't really able to apply the social distancing rules with true consistency, so they aren't likely creating the habit. As for myself, I don't go out enough to practice it so that it's become a habit.

  23. Interfacing: Fashion Sewing Supply is a good source. Not inexpensive, but most of what she carries is 58" or 60" wide and much higher quality than the large vendors. I make about 80% of my wardrobe and find it annoying when interfacing misbehaves, even after preshrinking it!

I discovered your blog about three months ago and thoroughly enjoy it! I rarely comment unless I can provide some information. I try to maintain a fairly minimal internet footprint. :-)

  24. What lovely blankets! You certainly give a lot to charity! what lovely gifts you received too! You could check Fat Quarter Shop, and Fabric.com.
People are funny about the social distancing. I did see somewhere that if you have a mask on you can be closer than 6 feet but don't quote me. STay well and stay safe!

  25. Such a beautifully colored yellow blanket you are working on, and what a sweet gift from your generous friend! Isn't it wonderful to see spring at work in our area, and the abundant sunshine, thanking the Lord with you! I hope you've been able to track down interfacing with the suggestions of others, but one thought I had would be to check with local small fabric or quilt stores, as they may not have such a rush on interfacing as other places. Many blessings to you!
