Time Flies

Hello and Happy 2018!  Wait. What?!  You mean today is the LAST day of January?  How in the world did that happen?  I am really starting to believe that old saying that time goes faster the older you get.  I can't believe that January is over already.

But wait again!  That means that tomorrow is my birthday!  And we're finally having our Bible study Christmas potluck and gift exchange tomorrow night.  Yes, you read that right.  It was supposed to be the week we returned from Omaha, but people were sick.  Then last week Dennis was sick.  So it's tomorrow.  We're still celebrating Christmas, even if it will be in February and my birthday.

Even though it's a Christmas party, I have the kitchen decorated for Valentine's Day.  These are the Scandinavian Hearts pattern that is free on Teresa's blog.  She's over on my sidebar.  They are lots of fun to crochet with cotton thread.
I'm being brave and letting you see my entire kitchen.  It's not a kitchen with nothing on the counters as you can see.  It's cooked in and used every day.
The hoosier cabinet is also ready for springtime with it's silk flowers in spring colors.
I just had to show you this bouquet of flowers.  Although the roses are beginning to droop this morning, this arrangement was bought at Trader Joes on January 15th.  That's over two weeks and most of it is still looking beautiful!  You really can't beat TJ's flowers.
Piper sent us this sweet little thank you card she made for her Christmas presents.  She told me that it was Papa, Piper and Grandma.  She used the glitter pens that we gave her as one of her gifts.  I love her artwork.
I've mainly been knitting on mittens this week, although I did finish a baby blanket and gave it away without taking a picture. (oops!)  Eight more pair done!
I also began a pair of socks for Dennis.  These are my "carry-along" project for when I'm not home.   The yarn is "Tiger Eye" by Knit Picks.
I had an appointment with the foot doctor this morning.  She's fairly certain that the increasing pain in my feet is from arthritis.  She also said there is nothing to be done about it.  Some days I literally have to go up and down our stairs on my rear end because my feet won't bend to walk the stairs.  That's one of the reasons we're planning to move to a one level home or into our trailer in a few years.  I don't think it's going to get better.  Oh well, she just confirmed what I was thinking was the most obvious conclusion.  I know a lot of people have a lot worse problems than that so I will try not to complain.

I also have a dentist appointment this afternoon for my regular check up.  Might as well get everything done in one day and be done with it!  I actually don't mind going to my dentist.  They are so sweet there and they have never hurt me.

It's one of the reasons why it's hard to think of moving when Dennis retires.  We really like our dentist and I have a lot of faith in the Heart Institute that takes care of my pacemaker.  Lots of decisions to be made in the next few years.  The plan right now is to move back to Omaha to be near Mandy and Brad and the rest of our family.  We want to travel in our camper a lot too, but would like a "home base," so we shall see what the future has in store for us.

We have had a few days of lovely warm weather.  In the 40's and party cloudy.   Most of the snow is gone. Yippee!  I do know that it's still winter and there is more snow to come, but I'm enjoying each day that is nice and being cozy at home when the weather isn't so nice.  With weeks like this though, I'm wanting to go open up the trailer and enjoy the lake!  Silly me!

I hope all is well in your world and I think I've gotten caught up on all of your blogs.  I hope you have a  lovely Wednesday my friends.

"If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding going or a clanging cymbal."  1 Corinthians 13:1

Blessings always,
Betsy

  1. So sorry everyone has been ill- the flu is raging this season and so far I have managed to escape catching it...but I sure do wash my hands alot. Your house is beautiful and even though you say you use your kitchen it is very neat and tidy. Mine, not so much! Have a blessed day!

  2. It sounds like you have a lot to think about with moving but I am sure it will all work out for the best. I think your kitchen is lovely. Mine is cooked in and used every day too, I can't keep it looking magazine-tidy at all, and I've given up trying. It's a schoolroom, playroom and hangout, in addition to a place to cook. I hope you have a wonderful birthday, Betsy!

  3. I agree about the time issue! Your kitchen is lovely and in much better shape than mine. I love your hoosier, I used to have one and I miss it. Your flowers are lovely and what the heck is up with your Arthritis? I have RA but the meds nowadays keep you from having permanent damage to your joints....not being able to walk would definitely qualify for a talk with your doctor!
Cute picture Piper sent and Happy Birthday!!! Enjoy your party tonight!

I love your kitchen. I'm crocheting some little hearts myself. I was having trouble finding an easy pattern but I finally found a super easy one.
Have a fun day tomorrow! I think in your travels you need to come to my neck of the woods in AZ!

  5. Time certainly seems to fly by faster for me the older I get :-). I love being with my family in Nebraska and can imagine you enjoying being back there one day with some of your family...a good home base for your travels! I am sorry that stairs are becoming a problem for you and can relate to that because of my left knee which slows me down.
Meanwhile, I love seeing and learning about your beautiful stitching and lovely home. I hope you have a good celebration with your friends and a very Happy Birthday, dear Betsy. 🎶💜🎂💜🎶 🤗😘

  7. Happy birthday. I love the mittens. I remember knitting mittens as a child. We had to do so many inches before we wet outside to play. So I learned to knit fast.

  8. *H*A*P*P*Y* * *B*I*R*T*H*D*A*Y*!*!*!* Betsy! I hope you have fun with your friends, I hope they celebrate your day and you get a cake! I think it's exciting that you're thinking of making a move where you can see your girls on a more regular basis. I sure do dislike having mine 3000 miles away. Good job on your mittens, they're stacking up! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  11. Happy Birthday, Merry Christmas, and Happy Valentine's DAy! I know what you mean about moving and finding new doctors. We did that two years ago and I still miss my old doctors, my dentist, my hairdresser, my church... etc. It's difficult to start over, but it's getting better!

  12. Happy Birthday sweet friend. :) I am sorry about your feet. ((hugs)). I know getting a place where you don't have to go up and down so many stairs will most certainly help. You have been very busy lately with all your finishes. Wishing you a most lovely day sweet friend. Happy, Happy, Happy Birthday. ((hugs))

  17. Oh, Betsy! I am SO sorry you suffer so much in your feet! Bless your heart, that is just awful. May the dear Lord help you and give you relief. I am praying for you every day, and I wanted to thank you SO much for the pattern you sent to me! I am so excited to try it..it is so pretty! It was so kind and thoughtful of you to share it with me. And, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! I didn't even know it was your birthday, and I got a little package ready for you tonight! Isn't that the funniest thing? It isn't much at all...just a little remembrance, but now we can just say it is for your birthday!! So, your birthday is February 1st, and my sweet hubby's birthday is February 3rd! Just two days apart! We are looking forward to celebrating, Lord willing. May God give you and my Sweetie both many, many, many more birthdays, and may they all be healthy and happy and surrounded with the ones you love the most! Sending love and hugs your way!

  18. Happy birthday! Such beautiful projects, as always.
I hope you feet feel better. Arthritis is no joke.
It will be nice for you to be nearer to Piper when Dave retires. We still haven’t figured what we will do- stay in Pennsylvania or move to Florida, or do both.

  20. Glad you all are recovered from the flu but sorry to hear about your feet. Nice work on all those mittens; you've been very busy doing good stuff. I love seeing your kitchen; it looks like you enjoy using it. Ours seems to be the hangout place of the whole house, and I'll bet yours is as well. Hope you are having a good day; how can it already be Feb. 5th?
